FAQ

Q1: What is the main structural design and application of the IDMC-01 Indoor Mini Cable?

A: The IDMC-01 is an ultra-compact indoor mini bundle fiber optic cable designed for high-density indoor distribution. It features 250μm optical fibers surrounded by high-strength Aramid yarn strength members and is finished with a flame-retardant PVC or LSZH jacket. Its mini diameter and lightweight design ensure a small bend radius, excellent strippability, and effortless splicing.

Q2: Which industry and fire-safety standards does the IDMC-01 cable comply with?

A: The cable complies with YD/T 1258.2-2009, ICEA-596, GR-409, and IEC 60794 (IEC794) standards, as well as UL approval requirements for OFNR (Riser) flame ratings.

Q3: What core counts, physical diameters, and cable weights are available?

A: Physical dimensions by core density include:

  • 2 to 12 Cores: 3.0 mm outer diameter | 7.5 kg/km weight
  • 14 to 24 Cores: 3.5 mm outer diameter | 8.0 kg/km weight

Q4: What are the mechanical strength and operating temperature specifications?

A: Mechanical and thermal performance specifications across all core options include:

  • Tensile Strength: 150 N long-term / 300 N short-term
  • Crush Resistance: 80 N/100m long-term / 150 N/100m short-term
  • Bending Radius: 15D static / 30D dynamic
  • Temperature Range: -20°C to +60°C operating and storage temperature

Q5: Who manufactures the IDMC-01 cable and what is the reference price?

A: Manufactured by FirstFiber Technologies, the IDMC-01 carries a reference price starting at $1.1 USD. As an infrastructure manager for a high-density colocation facility, cable routing space in our overhead trays is always at a premium. The IDMC-01 24-core variant is an exceptional solution, packing 24 fibers into a highly compact 3.5mm outer diameter. This footprint significantly reduces tray congestion compared to standard indoor cables we have used in the past. The Aramid yarn strength member provides an impressive short-term tensile strength of 300 N, which held up perfectly during our pulls through complex conduit paths. For this deployment, we opted for the LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) jacket to comply with our strict fire safety codes, and we appreciate that it meets the UL approval requirements for OFNR flame ratings. Furthermore, the fibers strip cleanly, and the 15D static bending radius makes the cable highly manageable when routing inside dense patch panels. I highly recommend this product for enterprise data centers.

We recently procured a large batch of the 12-core IDMC-01 featuring G.657 single-mode fiber for an expansive Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) indoor distribution project. The most impressive aspect of this mini bundle cable is its lightweight design—at just 7.5 kg/km, it is incredibly easy for our technicians to handle and pull on site. The ф250μm fibers are extremely well protected by the Aramid yarns, yet the excellent strippability remains intact. Our technicians reported that splice times decreased noticeably because the jacket and buffer strip smoothly without damaging the glass. In our OTDR testing post-installation, the optical performance was exactly as specified, showing an attenuation of ≤ 0.30 dB/km at 1310nm for the G.657 fibers. It is a highly reliable, installer-friendly solution for high-density FTTx deployments.

We have been utilizing FirstFiber's IDMC-01 (specifically the 8-core, G.652 fiber with PVC jacket configuration) for industrial indoor routing, and its mechanical durability is surprising for a mini cable. Despite its small 3.0mm diameter, it successfully meets rigorous industry standards including ICEA-596, GR-409, and IEC794. During our installation in a retrofitted warehouse, the cable was occasionally subjected to moderate crushing forces and sharp bends, but the 80 N/100m long-term crush resistance and Aramid reinforcement prevented any micro-bending or signal degradation. We have also monitored the cable in unconditioned utility rooms bordering its -20°C to +60°C operating and storage temperature limits, and the jacket has shown no signs of embrittlement or thermal fatigue. It is an exceptionally well-engineered cable for applications that demand a small footprint without sacrificing mechanical and environmental performance.
