FAQ

Q1: What is the main purpose and deployment flexibility of the FOSCYL5 Dome Type Fiber Optic Splice Closure?

A: The FOSCYL5 is a compact dome-type Fiber Optic Splice Closure (FOSC) utilizing heat-shrinkable sealing to protect optical fiber cable splices, including uncut mid-span cables. It is engineered for multi-environment outdoor deployments, including aerial, direct buried, underground pipeline, wall mounting, and manhole installations.

Q2: What cable port configurations and fiber capacities are available on the FOSCYL5 closure?

A: Port configurations and splicing capacities include:

  • Cable Entry Ports: Features 5 entry/exit ports, including 1 primary oval port (36 mm diameter) designed for uncut feeder cables.
  • Bunchy Fiber Capacity: Supports up to 96 bunchy fibers across a maximum of 4 splice trays.
  • Ribbon Fiber Capacity: Accommodates up to 288 ribbon fibers.
  • Splice Tray Capacity: Each tray supports 12 single-layer or 24 dual-layer bunchy splices, or 6 to 12 ribbon splices.

Q3: What are the physical dimensions, materials, and hardware included with the FOSCYL5?

A: Key technical specifications include:

  • Material Construction: Durable Polycarbonate (PC) outer body with thermoplastic rubber sealing grommets.
  • Dimensions & Net Weight: Measures 450 (H) × 205 (D) mm with a net weight between 3.1 kg and 3.4 kg.
  • Operating Temperature: All-weather rating operating reliably from -40°C to +65°C.
  • Included Standard Accessories: Comes equipped with up to 4 splice trays, 1 loose tube storage tray, heat-shrink protective tubes, grounding wire, hanging hoops, M10 wrench, abrasive cloth, labeling paper, and aluminum foil protection paper.

Q4: Who manufactures the FOSCYL5 splice closure and what is its reference price?

A: Manufactured by FirstFiber Technologies, the FOSCYL5 Dome Type Heat Shrinkable Fiber Optic Splice Closure carries a reference price starting at $18 USD.

Q5: How can I select capacity options and submit a quote request?

A: Select your target core capacity (24 Cores, 48 Cores, 72 Cores, or 96 Cores) on the product page and click “Add to Quote” for custom volume pricing or “Request a Demo” to submit an evaluation inquiry.

Integrating the FOSCYJ4 dome closure across our urban FTTH drop deployments solved several space-constraint issues in cramped manholes and wall-mount boxes. With compact dimensions of 310 (H) × 190 (D) mm and a net weight between 1.55 kg and 1.74 kg, it is significantly easier to handle overhead or in tight quarters compared to larger 500 mm enclosures. The 4-port layout includes 1 primary 25 mm port for uncut mid-span feeder loops and 3 branch 16 mm ports for distribution drops. The heat-shrinkable sealing system and thermoplastic rubber grommets maintain a rock-solid, weather-resistant seal rated for harsh temperatures from -40°C to +65°C. Supporting up to 48 bunchy fibers or 72 ribbon fibers across 4 splice trays, it provides the ideal capacity for lower-density spur lines.

At a reference baseline starting at only $19 USD, FirstFiber’s FOSCYJ4 dome closure provides remarkable value for utility-grade fiber cable management. We deployed a batch for aerial pole-mounting and wall-mounting contracts, and the included hanging hoop set made exterior installations seamless. The closure arrives as a complete turnkey kit equipped with splice trays, fiber splice protective sleeves, nylon ties, a grounding wire, abrasive cloth, an M10 wrench, and heat-protective aluminum-foil paper. We also added the optional testing valve to run air pressure checks before finalizing overhead deployments. The high-impact Polycarbonate (PC) outer body stands up extremely well to direct solar exposure and physical stress.

We standardized on the FOSCYJ4 for branch connections in underground pipeline, duct, and direct-buried cable runs. The interior design is well thought out, featuring a maximum of 4 splice trays where each dual-layer tray neatly organizes 12 bunchy fiber splices. A dedicated fiber holding tray stores un-spliced loose tube buffer fibers cleanly without forcing tight bend radiuses. Selecting between the 12-core, 24-core, 36-core, and 48-core capacity options gave our field teams exactly the tray density needed for small distribution nodes. The heat-shrinkable seal around the cable entry ports creates an airtight barrier that resists long-term moisture ingress underground.
