Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on active FTTx subscriber lines requires reliable out-of-band reflectometry to avoid disrupting live traffic. We deployed the 980RTC-A26 (1625 nm, 26 dB dynamic range) and 980RTC-B26 (1650 nm, 26 dB dynamic range) models across our field teams, as both feature specialized internal filters designed specifically for in-service testing while active 1490 nm, 1550 nm, and 1610 nm signals are present on the line. The instrument accurately evaluates link loss and detects localized faults across distances extending up to 90 km. Its Event Map feature translates complex backscatter traces into simple graphical event icons with clear pass/fail evaluations, allowing technicians of all skill levels to pinpoint issues quickly without manual curve analysis.

Field dispatches often require technicians to handle both optical link audits and premises Ethernet copper cabling. The 980RTC solves this bottleneck by combining nine essential diagnostic functions into a single pocket-sized chassis: an OTDR, Optical Power Meter, Optical Light Source, Visual Fault Locator, Insertion Loss Tester, Event Map visualizer, LED work light, and complete RJ45 cable sequence and digital wire tracking modules.
